DESCRIPTION:CELEBRATING JEWISH DISABILITY AWARENESS AND INCLUSION MONTH \nFilm Screening with Disability Rights Activist Judy Heumann \nThe moving documentary Crip Camp tells the story of Camp Jened\, a sleepaway camp in the 1970s Catskills for teenagers with physical and mental disabilities. \nAt that time\, these teens faced a future shaped by isolation\, discrimination and institutionalization…until they arrived at Camp Jened\, a ramshackle summer camp that became their freewheeling utopia. Bonds between the campers endured as many migrated west to Berkeley\, California — a hotbed of activism where the former campers realized that disruption\, civil disobedience\, and political participation could change the future for millions like them. \nWe are honored to welcome Judy Heumann as our facilitator.
